First off, I'm going to assume that no one will be reading this (or any other "summary") as a substitute for reading the Bible itself. Instead, a summary such as this should be useful as a "companion" volume for other reading (in my case I intended to use it as a companion to reading a "one-year Bible" ; in short I thought it might be helpful to have a synopsis handy to sort of prepare me and/or give some context for the upcoming day's reading. However this book contains quite a few errors rendering it somewhat less helpful than I might have hoped.First off, there are an embarrassingly large number of simple "typos". Just to pick a couple of examples:2Chron 18: "Arab punished Micaiah ..." [Should read "AHAB punished...".]1 Corinth 18: "...and arouse Lord's jealousy". [Should read "...and arouse THE Lord's..."]Prob 21: "You make think your way..." [Should be "You MAY think".]2Chron 16: "Asa even deposed his own grandmother..." [Should be "...his own MOTHER".]Aside from these annoyances there are other rather more serious errors. For example, the synopsis for Gen 8 begins:"The water began to recede and the ark rested on Mount Ararat."instead of the correct "...among the mountains for Ararat."(And, yes, I realize that this mistake [I.e. misreading "...among the mountains of Ararat" or "...in the Ararat Range" incorrectly as "Mt Ararat"] is a common error. But it is especially problematic [perhaps it might not be too strong to label it as inexcusable] in a book that offers itself as a reference text.)Likewise, from the summary for Job 19 "Job knew that on resurrection day he would see God in the flesh". But while the text has Job speaking of meeting "his Redeemer" face-to-face there's nothing in the text that in any way suggests "resurrection day". (And, as above, I realize that this is a reading commonly put forward by certain Christian interpreters, but this sort of sectarian apologetics doesn't really belong in a reference book, especially a "summary" like this where the reader should be able to expect the author to provide a straightforward, accurate reading.)In a similar vein, the summary for Genesis 3 reads "The Serpent --Satan--caused Eve [...]" As in the case above, there is nothing in the text itself to identify "The Serpent" with "Satan".One last example: From the summary for Genesis 2: "The perspective shifts looking back at the sixth day and specifically the garden in Eden where God created God [...]" Here there is no hint of the "perspective shifting"; rather, as is almost universally understood --and as is clear from the text-- a second, separate creation account begins at this point in Chap 2.As a note: These sorts of errors are, sadly, a common feature of self-published books like "Chapter By Chapter". The reader could only wish that the author had invested the extra money that would have allowed a good editor to look over the text. So, in sum, any value that this book might have is rather lessened by this sort of carelessness.A couple other quibbles: -- The book is subtitled "An Easy to Use Summary of the Entire Bible". This is not correct. Only the books of the standard Protestant version of the bible are included. For example none of the "deuterocanonical" books, contained in standard Catholic editions of the Bible, are included here. -- I think a brief summary of each book might have quite helpful. -- Likewise, an index. Finally, let me mention one last issue:This isn't really a problem with this particular book, but is, more generally, an issue with most biblical "Summaries". Namely that the summaries of the chapters of many of the "poetic books" (like Psalms and Proverbs) or the Prophetic books, are quite short (e.g it's not uncommon to see the content of an entire Psalm reduced to a single brief sentence). As I say this is more a limitation with the genre than a problem with this specific book. (For example, any "complete" summary of a chapter from, say, Proverbs, would likely require more or less simply copying the entire chapter.) But that said, I mention it here because it might be useful to any prospective buyers of the book.
