Disclaimer... i'm on page 153 out of 253 pages but apparently Amazon thinks i should have an opinion by now since they just emailed me about writing a review. i was excited to learn all about the Sacred Band... its inner workings, its rank and file, its camaraderie... so much so that i pre-ordered the book. what it actually is -- so far -- is a history of the times during which the Sacred Band existed. there have been about two pages dedicated to its specific origin, and a few pages since then recounting battles they were part of, but that's it. there is nothing -- so far -- about its inner workings, its rank and file, its camaraderie. i'm trying to stick with it because the times in which they were extant are interesting, but i've lost hope of actually learning anything about the Sacred Band itself.Ok, finished the book... and the adage is proved... THIS BOOK IS NOT ABOUT THE SACRED BAND OF THEBES.
